While we were not able to get a bill passed this session, we made a lot of behind-the-scenes progress that will lay the groundwork for a successful effort next session! The keys to victory are twofold: education and voters contacting their legislators.
To help advance the first piece, education, we are co-hosting the Southern Cannabis Summit in Louisville on June 10-11. This summit will bring together both medical and legal professionals to educate activists, lawyers and medical professionals across the southeast on the benefits of legalized cannabis, and, maybe more importantly, the harms that keeping cannabis illegal causes both to individuals and society at large. Check out the website at southerncannabissummit.com for more information.
On the second piece, we know this is an extremely popular issue with the public, and for some reason politicians seem scared of publicly supporting it. So, like before, we are asking you to contact your legislators and let them know that you will vote on this issue and support people who support it. We will be targeting districts of some key Legislators to let their voters know more information about the issue, and telling them to contact their Legislators. We are hoping this constant drumbeat of public support becomes a crescendo close to the November elections and then again in January when the next session starts.
Thanks for all your support this year in helping Legalize Kentucky Now become the leading cannabis advocacy group in Kentucky. We made a lot of progress in just a few months, and will be trying to keep that momentum going through the summer and into next year!
