Writing Your Representative

We have had a few people ask us for a template when writing your representatives in Frankfort. we think that any way you contact them and let them know your opinion s great. If you need a little help finding the words, we have some suggestions. We think there are two ways to go about writing your reps: 1) short, simple and sweet; or 2) more detailed advocacy. Both are effective and it depends on how much you want to tell your current legislator.

Short and Sweet Letter

If you want to go short/simple route, we recommend the following format:
My name is XX. I live on XX street in XX county in your district. I am an active voter and I strongly support medically necessary marijuana legislation. I hope you vote in favor of it this session.

Share a Personal Story

If you have a personal story as to why you support legislation, we recommend you share it. Many people with illnesses, family members who fight diseases, veterans, and more have shared their story with us and their legislators. It really helps to humanize this important issue and take away the misconceptions about Cannabis use.

Longer Letter

If you want to write a longer letter to them, we recommend starting with the above as your intro, then moving into something like this:
While no one policy can solve all of Kentucky’s problems, I believe that legalizing marijuana will make a tangible difference across a range of issues facing our state:
– Compassionate treatment for our citizens who are seriously suffering;
– Reduced reliance on dangerous prescription opiate based narcotics that can lead to addiction and abuse;
– Increased tax revenue that our state desperately needs;
– Social justice benefits to help balance racially discriminate application of current marijuana laws;
– Creation of jobs in every district.
I fully support this because [insert your story here].
The time has come to Legalize Kentucky. Please do not let our state be one of the last to realize the important benefits and advantages that legalization can bring.
Regards ,

You can copy/paste, or change it up to be in your own voice. Any contact with your legislators is great, but we really appreciate your desire to be professional. We hope this helps you!
